Collection: Wood-Fired Natural Ash on Porcelain
This small batch of wares were fired wood-fired in the Tozan Noborigama dragon kiln in one of our biannual community firings. Each firing takes community members many hours of cutting, organizing and preparing and the firing itself takes 3 days and 2 nights around the clock of small-group 6 hour shifts, monitoring temperatures and adding wood.
The clay body is porcelain with a clear liner glaze on the inside and unglazed on the outside. The unique colouring of each vessel is a result of the interaction of the flame and wood ash with the clay, with wood ash metling into glaze at the very high temperatures of the wood-fried kiln.
