These oxidation celadon mugs are made in white stoneware clay and feature ginkgo and cherry blossom (sakura) motifs, both common symbols in East Asian art and culture. Ginkgo leaves are associated with longevity, resilience, and endurance, while sakura represent the fleeting nature of life and seasonal renewal. Ginkgo, known in Chinese as yínxìng (银杏), has long been used in East Asian herbal medicine, with both the leaves and nuts valued in traditional practices and cuisine. Each design is made using sprig molds — small clay reliefs that are formed separately and carefully attached to the mug while the clay is still wet. The mugs are finished in an oxidation-fired green celadon glaze, with copper used to create the green hue.
