Small gong-fu style porcelain teapot. Handmade and soda-fired Soda firing is a vapour-glazing processes where soda (from soda ash sodium carbonate or baking soda sodium bicarbonate )is introduced into the kiln at a high temperature. The soda vaporizes, and sodium binds to the silica in the clay surface, forming a hard, glassy glaze with varying colours and textures.
The teapot is porcelain with a celaodn liner glaze on the inside and unglazed on the outside when it entered the kiln - the grey glaze entirely from soda vapours. The unique speckling comes from mixing a small amount of sand into the porcelain before forming the teapot, and the sadn resists the soda in the kiln creating interesting texture and colour variation.
Small batch series from firings in spring 2025.
