Small gong-fu style porcelain teapot. Handmade and soda-fired Soda firing is a vapour-glazing processes where soda (from soda ash sodium carbonate or baking soda sodium bicarbonate )is introduced into the kiln at a high temperature. The soda vaporizes, and sodium binds to the silica in the clay surface, forming a hard, glassy glaze with varying colours and textures.
The teapot is porcelain with a celadon liner glaze on the inside and unglazed on the outside when it entered the kiln - the grey glaze entirely from soda vapours. The unique colouring comes from a process called flashing, where the surface of the clay reacts with the kiln atmosphere (containing soda).
Small batch series from Spring 2025 firing.
