Wheel-thrown stoneware ceramic "ginger jar". Unlike most of my ginger jars, this one has been fully vitrified and can be used to store dried food of liquids.
The vessel was entirely unglazed when entering the kiln before a 36 hour community firing . All of the colouring is primarily due to natural ash which melts into glaze on the pot at high temperatures and partly due to a process called flashing, the sudden brightening or burst of colour on the surface of pottery caused by a rapid increase in flame and temperature, often leaving unpredictable, shimmering effects on the clay.
This pieces is adorned with sprig moulds of sakura cherry blossoms, in celebration of the coming spring .
7.25" tall
4.75" wide at widest point
Wood firing has a higher price due to the many hours involved in the firing process.
