Shino glazes originated in Japan during the late 16th century, particularly in the Mino region. On wood-fired teacups, it is valued for its variability in colour especially in woos-firing and grey patterns of carbon-trapping.
This pieces is adorned with sprig moulds of sakura cherry blossoms, in celebration of the coming spring .

Wood firing is priced higher due to the many hours involved in the firing process.
This piece has a small chip on the inside of the lid where the wood ash fused the lid to the body. It released with gentle tapping but took a small bit of the clay body with it. (see photos)
